My boss showed me this link today and it was very moving to all of us. I actually started tearing up when I watched it again on my own just now.
The singer is James Blunt, whom I adore. He wrote this song "No Bravery" and a video was made for it which you can see in this link:

Am I a typical Cancer?

I was never one to meet someone new and ask which star sign they belong to, nor do I meet a guy and check his star compatability with mine, nor do I focus on whether this person is a typical scorpio or a typical pisces or a typical anything. The thing I focus on is my own star sign...I seem to be a VERY typical Cancerian! I mean 2 really close girlfriends of mine pointed at me the first time they met me and were like "you are a Cancer, and you know how I know? coz I am one too!" Plus one of our AIESEC trainees did the same when he met me the first time a few weeks ago...Shantanu was like "You are such a Cancerian!" LOST: The greatest series ever!

LOST is just sooo amazing. Every episode keeps you staring at the screen because you cannot believe how they came up with this stuff! Plus, in every single episode you see alot of action going on...it isnt one of those slooow moving series. It's about a plane that crashes onto an island and the survivors have to survive when they don't know each other. The characters in it are so different and as the story unfolds you learn more and more about each character. You have an Iraqi soldier, an American surgeon, a pregnant Austrailian, a Chinese couple, etc. Everyone has a story that is soooo interesting so it helps you understand why they are the way they are, and why they bond with certain people and fight with others. Plus, there are weird things that happen on the island itself on top of how strange each of the characters are. I thought nothing could beat my obession with SURVIVOR but it seems that LOST has! I highly recommend it!

Does being in your 20s mean you have to act old?

I was having this discussion with a couple of friends (Emad and Mariam) of mine last thursday. We were discussing how so many of our friends seem to have turned into grownups over night. How doing the crazy things we used to do in uni seems so juvenile at our age. Mariam and I were so dissappointed about it. I mean...why do we have to be grown ups at 20! For God's sake we are still young and having fun is not a crime. I always believed that the trick to leading a happy life is to keep the child in you alive. Keep the curious kid in you awake and looking for new things to be amazed about. From time to time be silly, sing out loud, dance the night away, have pillow fights, lie down and try to image what the clouds look like, take ur friends and go on a trip, jump into the car with your friends and go cruising with the music on really loud. We should do these things more often as we get older coz our responsibilities increase and so does our stress...so these little childish things can put a smile right back on your face :) Don't be in such a rush to grow up, what's fun about being a grown up??

HOW in Boulaq

We started our learning team project about 2 weeks ago. HOW is a project about teaching the kids of Boulaq to develop habits that are environment friendly, like closing the tap when they are not using the water, not dumping trash in the streets, etc. We went twice to a total of 3 schools and it was a great experience. The kids really responded to us and I was thrilled to see that we managed to keep them interested for 6 whole hours! As we were leaving we got huge hugs and they wanted to know when we'd be back. It was really sweet. We are meeting the kids this sat and next fri, and I really hope we see a change in their behaviour. Even if we had a great time with them and they enjoyed it, the point is for them to want to have a cleaner Cairo. I hope we managed to convey the importance of that to them.

My bro rocked!

Last wednesday I went to Sakkia to watch my brother's concert with his band Egoz. This was the 3rd time I watch them and I think it was the best concert out of all 3! The energy in the air was just electrifying. I kept dancing even though my mum was there hehe. At some point I think I even grabbed her and told her to dance with me! She of course looked at me like I was crazy but played along anyway which was great! Thanks to Hazem, Maan, Noha, Rana, Laila, Miguel, Ame, Adriana, and others for being there! I think what helped make this concert a success was that I went knowing that my bro's bass guitar had a few problems, Hany the singer had a sore throat, and there was a sandstorm outside! The concert seemed doomed so I had average expectations even though I knew they always did a great job. Im glad to say I was very wrong and they did an amazing job especially in terms of getting the crowd going. Good job EGOZ! Very proud of you Basel, keep it up!

Marriage and Egypt

Lately, in the past few weeks, I have met up with many of my girlfriends and even guy friends and surprise surprise had the exact same conversation with every single one of them...marriage. We are all at that age now where most of our friends are getting engaged, married, or even having babies so we feel the pressure big time these days which is why we had this conversation so many times. 2 of the girls I talked to share the exact same view as I do but we are a rare species in the Egyptian culture; we see no reason to get married now just because people expect us to, PLUS we believe that if we find the right person we'll get married, if we dont, then we'll stay single no problem. WHAT!? That's the reaction we get from some friends, and even some family members about that opinion. And we are just baffled by it! Some girls are getting engaged for the sake of being engaged! I do not understand that! How can you prefer to marry someone you dont even love over being on your own? How can you say to yourself, "oh well here's a guy that wants me...let me marry him coz I need to get married already". My reaction to that would be....ARE YOU FREAKING CRAZY??!! I would prefer being alone, travelling around, working, doing anything rather than marrying just any random guy! What's sad is that this seemingly logical concept is so totally rejected by our society. Here, if you finished uni and are working then you are expected to be married next...its a holy system that cannot be messed with so now I get comments like "oh so you've been working now for 8 months, when are you getting married?". And its just hilarious to me! I am fine on my own for now thanks! If I find a guy and fall in love that's great! I mean ALL girls want that. But I won't be like "oh I'm turning 23 soon and have secured a job, let me go shopping for a husband now before its too late". WHAT THE HELL!! My friend said it perfectly "I'm not about to go kiss as many frogs as I can in the shortest amount of time just so I can find the prince that society expects me to marry like NOW". Unlike most people in Egypt, we want to find a guy who will complement us, who will be our partner. We are not looking for someone to "complete us". We are already complete on our own, we just want another complete person who just adores us and we adore them and we are able to have a good time together. If I find him it'll be awesome, but if I dont, that doesn't make me an incomplete person!

How many hits can one person take?

These days I have gotten a little frustrated and I am not the sort who can stay frustrated for long...I get a beating and I get up and move on just coz I cant be bothered to stay upset! Its too damn tiring being upset. But what happens when you get beating after beating? You reach a point where you are too beaten to get up! I feel like I am slowly reaching that point this week which is odd for me! I have poured my energy, heart, and time into a few projects hoping to get a great deal of participation back but instead didnt get half of what I expected. I dont think my expectations were very high to begin with either, they rarely are, so I am or was then am again very frustrated! Its not that we got zero participation but the people we expected to participate were nowhere to be found. Our own project lacked participants from our own university, our celebration lacked people from the uni and from the project participants themselves! Then the outing of cultural exchange had almost no Egyptians for the foreigners to exchange ideas with! And it just keeps going downhill from there. I personally enjoyed my time in all these events and I put my all into them regardless but I was just very dissappointed with the lack of enthusiasm from the people who were supposed to be excited and there for us...I just hope this streak doesnt continue any further because the beatings are becoming too much for me to handle.
