Now I'm beginning to get it...it really is a matter of perspective
If you can remember my last posting on saudi arabia, I was practically complaining about how imprisoned I feel here sometimes with being unable to drive, to do things by myself, and to work if I ever lived here. I was feeling quite angry about that coz all I could think about was where was MY freedom? Why do I have to feel like a prisoner coz I am a girl? Mind you that was my opinion on the country's rules and not on Islam; do not mix up the two. Now, I am here in Saudi again, and decided to keep an open mind. I still, being the modern woman, feel imprisoned but I have allowed myself to try to see it from another perspective. Imagine this, a woman who lives in saudi lives an almost stress-free life. She gets to fill her time with social activities and hobbies, gets to be waited on hand and foot, gets to have a cook, maid, and chauffeur to do everything for her, and her only real responsibilities are her husband and kids. Other than that, she doesnt have to live through the stress of a job, nor the stress of paying bills, nor the stress of anything really! She gets to be a spoilt brat without even being blamed for it! woooow how incredibly cool! And if they live in a compound, they have a pool, tennis courts, the beach, just everything. Its the men who suffer here hahaha. The funny thing, is that this is what is expected from both genders, so I mean noone blames the other for living like that! Its just amazing! I kinda envy them a little...I am expected to work, make my own money, work long hours, buy my own things, deal with people on the street, use public transport, etc etc and I am not programmed to do otherwise. I am a modern woman, one who actually WANTS these stresses of life; runs after them. I want a career, I want my independence, I want my own materialistic things. For me, I see the life of a saudi woman as a prison...but is it really? or am I just programmed to think that it is? I mean look at what is expected out of a saudi woman versus an egyptian one? or for even more of a contrast, an european or american woman? Maybe she's the smarter one, gets everything for free, and the responsibility is gladly taken up by the men in her life...I still couldn't live her life, but I definately do envy her for being able to! I am sure she'll get to live alot longer than us stressed out modern women that's for sure

I never actually thought of the advantages of women in countries like Saudi Arabia. I don't think I would have even realized all these by myself (lucky I go through blogs from time to time). :)
p.s.: if I were a woman, and were to choose, I'd still choose the modern life. I guess I'm "programmed".

have you ever seen a cat, lying in the sun, it's belly pressed against the cool ground, licking it's own private bits? That cat...is happy.
is this kind of happiness what you want?

Hi Mai!
Ezzayak? :) Miss u sweetie! About your post:
Hm, maybe that kind of life "could" be nice, if Saudi women actually had a "choice", no? I guess I am not the right person to give her opinion on this issue, but I still it should be a matter of choice.
hope to cu on msn again sometime, big hugs to you
